For those that want to profess their Christian faith in a more contemporary way, try taking a look at these unique flavors and uses for traditional USB thumb drives.

Useful and interesting gifts for devoted Christian worshipers are easy to find, but computer accessories have been slow to move out of the office and into the sanctuary. On the other hand, some vendors have seen the Light, so to speak, and have begun to make their own modest contributions to a growing list of Christian-themed technology items that are perfect to give as gifts or to keep for personal use and reflection. As with most new computer accessories, they all operate via the computer's USB port and in this article they all happen to come in the form of USB thumb drives.

The USB Bible (King James Version):

Online Bibles are not incredibly new. Christians were one of the first to use the power of the Internet to spread God's word. Thanks to several resourceful companies these digitized versions of the King James Bible are now available USB thumb drives. Some of these small flash drive Bibles come in the shape of a Bible itself, while others come in the more ubiquitous shapes that are seen on every day thumb and flash drives. Many of these specially-made Bible thumb drives are provided with the contents write-protected so that the scriptures contained on them will not be accidentally erased.

USB Cross-Shaped Thumb Drives:

For those that want a more public statement of their digitized faith, Brando and several other vendors are now offering crucifix shaped thumb drives. Some varieties are made from wood while others have been encrusted with diamonds and as a result appear to be much more "gaudy" than "Godly." Other such cross shaped thumb drives are simple creations where a believer has superglued a metal or more traditional cross to their portable flash drive. In all of these cases, the thumb drive can be used for basic day to day tasks or, if desired, also used as a USB Bible by downloading and installing the scriptures manually.

The Pocket Chapel (Altar on a Stick?):

In perhaps one of the more interesting ways that Christians have chosen to accessorize their computers, some have taken to installing on their thumb drives a free piece of software known as the Pocket Chapel. In some homes it is customary to have a small, family altar at which to pray. The Pocket Chapel software allows the user to put just such a chapel on their computer screen. By placing the Pocket Chapel on a USB thumb drive it can then be taken along to whatever computer might be available.

Some Christians might think these varied applications of technology to be rather strange, but just as computer technology is evolving, so too is religion. While it is doubtful that electronic versions of the Bible will ever replace the solace of holding a leather bound text, the future may well hold many surprises.
